What is a DOI?
A Digital Object Identifier is a permanent ID for a published work, usually shaped like 10.1234/abcd. Unlike URLs, DOIs are designed never to break: doi.org always forwards to the current location.
Where is the DOI on a paper?
Usually on the first page near the copyright line, in the page header or footer, or on the article's landing page. It often appears as a doi.org link, which works here too.
Which records can this look up?
Anything registered with a DOI and indexed by OpenAlex or Crossref: journal articles, preprints, many books, chapters and datasets.
Can I save the papers I look up?
