BibTeX and RIS FAQ
What is the difference between BibTeX and RIS?
Both are plain-text reference formats. BibTeX comes from the LaTeX world and stores entries as @type blocks with named fields; RIS is a line-based tag format that EndNote popularised. Most reference managers read both, but tools often export only one.
Which fields survive the conversion?
Authors, title, journal or book title, year, volume, issue, pages, publisher, edition, DOI, URL, abstract, and keywords. Entry types map to their closest RIS equivalent: articles to JOUR, chapters to CHAP, proceedings papers to CONF, theses to THES.
Can I convert a whole .bib file at once?
Yes. Paste the full file contents; every entry converts in one pass and the counter shows how many records were found.
Is my data stored?
